  • "Anas leucophrys he-Tārrera. drawn in Dusky Bay and to be found in Charlotte's Sound."
  • Added by an unknown hand: "— superciliosa S.N.XIII: 537. Lath. 497. n. 45."
Notes

This is one of the water-colour drawings made by Georg Forster during James Cook's second voyage to the Pacific in 1772-1775.

The watercolour is listed by Sharpe 1906, p. 185 and by Lysaght 1959 p. 290 as Plate 77. This is the number written on the right-hand side of the watercolour. The NHM lists this watercolour as Plate 75.

John Latham based his description of the "Supercilious duck" on Forster's picture.(Latham, 1785, p. 497).

The watercolour was painted in Dusky Sound and is the holotype for the species.(Medway 1976 p. 54 "Grey duck")
