The construction of Marmara University’s Haydarpaşa Campus as the department of medicine began on the order of Abdülhamit II, under the name Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane in 1895. The building was designed by Alexandre Vallaury and Raimondo D’Aronco. Several building materials were brought from Anatolia and Europe for the construction and different styles ranging from the First Nationalist Architecture to Art Deco were employed on the façades. The building opened in 1903 and after the union of the military and civil medicine departments, it took the name Haydarpaşa Department of Medicine. After the University Reform in 1933, this department moved to the European side and the building was converted into a high-school. In 1933, it became part of Marmara University and is still used as The School of Medicine and Law.

Alexandre Vallaury ve Raimondo D’Aronco tarafından tasarlanan bina için Anadolu’nun yanı sıra farklı ülkelerden çeşitli malzemeler getirildi; cephelerde, I. Ulusal Mimarlık’tan Art Deco’ya farklı üsluplar kullanıldı. 1903’te hizmete açılan bina, 1909’da askerî ve sivil tıbbiyelerin birleştirilmesiyle Haydarpaşa Tıp Fakültesi adını aldı. 1933’te, Üniversite Reformu sırasında Avrupa yakasına taşındı; Mekteb-i Tıbbiye binası Haydarpaşa Lisesi’nin kullanımına geçti. 1983’te Marmara Üniversitesi bünyesine katılan bina, hâlen aynı üniversitenin tıp ve hukuk fakültelerine ev sahipliği yapmaktadır.
