Joylashuv
[tahrir | manbasini tahrirlash]Qalat Sukar Gʻarraf kanalining (shumerlar 4000 yil avval qazgan eski kanal) gʻarbidagi tizma ustida joylashgan. Qalat Sukkar qadimgi Shumer shahri boʻlmish Larsa qoldiqlaridan 6 km shimoli-sharqda joylashgan[2]. Qalat Sukkarni Larsa Telldan zamonaviy drenaj kanali ajratib turadi[2].
Jeyms Abbott Sauer va Xair Yasinning fikriga koʻra, mintaqadagi sobiq botqoqliklar[3] tufayli Qalat Sukkarda IX asrda shakarqamish yetishtirila boshlagan[4]. Shundan keyin shakar ishlab chiqarish yoʻlga qoʻyilib, hudud nomi aynan shu ishlab chiqarish zavodidan kelib chiqqan[5].
Eng yaqin yirik shahar Nosiriya boʻlib, shaharda 587 ming kishi istiqomat qiladi.
Aerodrom
[tahrir | manbasini tahrirlash]Iroq urushi paytida Qalat Sukkar aerodromi AQSh dengiz piyodalari tomonidan egallanib, Camp Fenway deb nomlangan[6].
